AT THE MTS CENTRE
Big picture
It won’t spoil Christmas, but the Jets now head into the holiday break with the sour taste of a loss stuck in their throats. And, in the process, they lose some ground in the jam-packed Eastern Conference. Ottawa, Jersey, Toronto and Washington all picked up points Friday night. The Jets got nada.
Little picture
The shots on goal stat is often deceiving but, on this night, the numbers are telling as Pittsburgh outshot the Jets 39-19. The Jets did whiff on some glorious opportunities, particularly early, but lacked finish and didn’t generate enough.
Game-breaker
The Jets and Pens had served up a dandy first 40 minutes of the game before the visitors grabbed this game by the throat just 22 seconds into the third on a goal by James Neal. Pittsburgh would score three times in the first five minutes of the third to seal the deal.
