Funeral arrangements have been set for former Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach and general manager Cal Murphy.
Murphy, one of the most influential figures in the CFL, passed away Saturday evening in a Regina hospital. Murphy lived in the Saskatchewan capital, where he worked as a scout for the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.
He was 79.
A vigil will be held for Murphy Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Holy Cross Church in Regina (315 Douglas Ave. E.). The vigil starts at 7:30 p.m.
Murphy’s funeral is is scheduled for 1 o’clock Friday afternoon (Feb. 24) at the same location.
It’s expected people from across the CFL and the NFL will pay their respects. Murphy won nine Grey Cups in his time as a coach and GM in the CFL — three of those coming with the Blue Bombers in the 1984, 1988, and 1990 seasons.
