OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators signed defenceman Ben Blood to a two-year entry-level contract Friday.

The native of Plymouth, Minn., recently completed his fourth and final season of college eligibility with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Blood helped the school reach the NCAA’s West Regional Final, where it was defeated by the University of Minnesota 5-2 on March 25.

Blood played in 42 games this season, scoring three times and adding 18 assists, while recording 73 penalty minutes. In four years with the Fighting Sioux, he recorded 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists), while registering 229 penalty minutes in 160 games.

Originally drafted by the Senators in the fourth round (120th overall) in the 2007 NHL draft, Blood has participated in the team’s annual development camp in each of the last five summers.
