has become executive director of Landscape Manitoba. Velthuys has been a leader in the non-profit industry for years. Landscape Manitoba is a trade association of nursery growers, greenhouse growers, garden centre operators, landscape contractors, sod growers, landscape maintenance contractors and suppliers of national and international products.
Kenny Boyce
City of Winnipeg manager of film and special events, has received the Meeting Professionals International — Manitoba Chapter’s 2012 Influencer Award. The national award program recognizes people or organizations, outside the direct industry, that have supported the development of meetings and conventions or the development of policy and programs affecting the industry. The award is sponsored by Nothers.

award winners: Jenneth Swinamer received the Susan A. Macdonald Award for significant contribution to the profession; Krista Paulson received the Leonore Saunders Award for being an inspiration to colleagues by acting as a role model for the profession.
Val Werier, CM, OM
will be presented with the 2012 Winnipeg Press Club Presidents Award for Someone Who Made a Difference, on May 10 at the legislative building. Werier has been a journalist for almost 70 years. His writing has effected social and environmental changes in Manitoba. He has championed the protection of Lake Winnipeg as well as the province’s parks and waterways. He has received the Order of Canada and the Order of Manitoba.
