After 35 years of jazz on the Winnipeg Art Gallery rooftop, the institution is broadening its summer concert series to embrace other musical genres.
Jazz on the Rooftop has been renamed Live on the Rooftop.
Three of the five Thursday-evening shows will still be jazz, featuring Walle Larsson (Aug. 9), Jodie Borlé in a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald (Aug. 23), and the Keith Price Trio with Amber Epp, Sol James and Erin Propp (July 12).
But the series will open with duo Keith & Renee (June 28) performing their blend of pop, rock, folk and country.
And it will close with Mariachi Ghost (Aug. 30), who combine traditional Mexican music with funk, acid, jazz, prog rock and metal.
Single tickets are $25 (WAG members $20) and a five-concert subscription is $100 (members $80). Adding the barbecue by Storm Bistro costs $25. Tickets are at www.wag.ca or the WAG front desk.
On Aug. 22, the University of Manitoba jazz camp faculty will give a special concert, with tickets available only at umanitoba.ca/summer/jazz.
