Traffic was backed up along part of the Trans Canada Highway this afternoon due to a vehicle fire outside of the community of Prawda.

Akshaui Patel, who works at the Shell gas station in Prawda, says the fire began at around 3:15 p.m. in a gray van parked just down the road from the station. He says the car had been parked there most of the day and appeared to be abandoned.

RCMP report that the car is in the westbound lane about three kilometers east of Prawda, a community roughly 109 km east of Winnipeg. Local fire services were on the scene and had the fire contained as of 4 p.m. The cause of the fire is said to be from a mechanical malfunction.
