DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a $7.55-million, two-year contract with defenceman Kyle Quincey.

The team announced the agreement, which avoided arbitration, on Wednesday.

Detroit drafted Quincey 132nd overall in 2003 and the Red Wings got him back from Colorado last season for a first-round pick in a three-team trade. The 26-year-old Quincey has 18 goals and 95 career points in Detroit, Colorado and Los Angeles.

Sabres sign top draft pick

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Sabres signed their top draft choice, forward Mikhail Grigorenko, to a three-year, entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Grigorenko was selected No. 12 overall and was the third-ranked North American skater and top North American centre on NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings.

In 2011-12, Grigorenko, native of Khabarovsk, Russia, a had 40 goals and 85 points in his first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season. Grigorenko led all first-year players in the QMJHL in goals and points, and was second in regular-season assists (45).

DA won’t charge Doughty

LOS ANGELES — Prosecutors have declined to file a date-rape charge against Los Angeles Kings star Drew Doughty, citing insufficient evidence.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued a report Wednesday concluding there was not enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

A woman who accused Doughty of raping her said she had consensual sex with him previously.

She told of drinking with him at a Hermosa Beach bar, then going to his home, where she said he assaulted her.

Doughty is among the Kings’ highest paid players. The 22-year-old had two goals and four assists during the team’s recent victory over the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup finals.

Doughty’s attorney, Craig Renetsky, said his client was relieved and thankful to the Hermosa Beach Police Department for their careful investigation of the case, which began last March.

Sens keep O’Brien, Gryba

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators re-signed forward Jim O’Brien and defenceman Eric Gryba to two-year contracts Wednesday.

O’Brien was recalled from the Senators’ AHL affiliate in February and became a reliable player for Ottawa head coach Paul MacLean.
