Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Johnny Sears says he’s not a “dirty player” and he’s looking forward to addressing the issue this Thursday with the man who says he is — Edmonton quarterback Steven Jyles.

“I don’t want to talk about it through the media and through the papers. I will address it when I see him on the field, know what I’m saying,” Sears said after practice at Canad Inns Stadium on Monday.

“It will get handled, but in the way it’s supposed to and (within) the integrity of the game. But yeah. I will be thinking about it.”

The Bombers play Jyles and the Eskimos Thursday evening in the home-opener for Winnipeg.

Sears was suspended for one game last season for a helmet-on-helmet hit on Jyles when the latter was quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts.

Jyles is now the Eskimos quarterback and he told reporters in Edmonton last week that “Sears to me is a dirty player…That’s just his style of play.”

Not so, says Sears. “I don’t play dirty. I play hard, I play to the whistle…

“You’re not supposed to like me, if you’re not on my team. But dirty player? No. I play hard and that’s not going to stop.”

FIELDNOTES — Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice ruled out OT Andre Douglas and LB Marcellus Bowman for Thursday’s game, joining DB Alex Suber, S Ian Logan, SAM Brandon Stewart and DT Brandon Collier who are all also out…RB Chad Simpson and DT Bryant Turner both returned to the practice field…Receivers Chris Matthews and Kito Poblah had maintenance days but will be back at practice on Tuesday…SB Terrence Edwards and LB Dustin Doe are also expected to return to practice on Tuesday…LaPolice said the diagnosis on Collier’s shoulder was more optimistic than expected, but he will still be out a few weeks.
