OTTAWA — Canadian soccer star Christine Sinclair added another award to cap a standout season.
The 29-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., was chosen the Canadian Soccer Association’s female player of the year after voting by Canadian media (50 per cent) and Canadian coaches (50 per cent).
The highlight of Sinclair’s 2012 season was Team Canada’s bronze-medal victory at the London Olympics, the country’s first medal in a traditional team sport since 1936. Sinclair scored an Olympic-record six goals to earn the Golden Boot, including a hat trick in a heartbreaking semifinal loss to the United States.
Sinclair has been named the CSA’s female player of the year nine years in a row, 10 times overall.
The men’s award winner will be announced today.
