Looking for Harmony

STRANGE revelation on David Letterman’s show: James Franco asked why Dave bans his pal Harmony Korine, director of Franco’s movie Spring Breakers. (Who knew?)

Dave explained: Korine appeared three times in 1997-98, when he was a boy-wonder director (remember Kids?). The fourth time, Meryl Streep was also on. Before the show, “I went upstairs to greet Meryl (in the green room),” Letterman recounted. “I found your friend Harmony going through her purse. So I said, ‘OK, put her things back in her bag and you get out of here.'”

Franco told Letterman: “Harmony is a very sane guy now, a great artist and great person to work with… he had a period where he was going a little off the rails, maybe he was on something.”

Korine is 40.

Kanye’s Divine Comedy

KANYE West will not be naming his next album I Am God, despite what BBC News reported the other day.

The story added, none too reassuringly, that the title is “half tongue-in-cheek.” Only half?

But now the whole thing has been denied by West’s people. One track is entitled I Am A God, which is not at all the same thing.

The statement, in part: “We would never be so presumptuous or sacrilegious to call ourselves the supreme being.”

(But if that’s not the divine “we”, then what is it? Royal? Not editorial, obviously: any editor would have added “as” between “sacriligious” and “to”. But I digress.)

Kanye is 35. God is eternal.

A little local Flavor

AS befits his name, sort of, the rapper Flavor Flav keeps opening restaurants. And his new one, Flav’s Chicken & Ribs in Sterling Heights, Mich., is going to have its own “reality” show, apparently. Eater.com had the story.

A pilot episode is now being cast. The production company wants “excited, funny, outgoing characters to fill the roles of customers here at the restaurant.” To add to the excitement, “Flavor Flav himself will obviously hold a significant role in the television pilot.”

Always a leader

WILL Smith tells Entertainment Weekly, why he turned down the title role in Quentin Tarantino’s gore-fest, Django Unchained:

That problem, Smith said, is that the Django character “wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead!” (He means Dr. King Schultz, played by Christoph Waltz.)

Smith is 44.

Hugo away

EVA Mendes says magazines should blur out the faces of celebrities’ pets in all photos.

She seems to be serious. She told New York magazine that she doesn’t like it when Dull Normals on the street know the name of Hugo, her Belgian Malinois, and George, the mutt who belongs to Eva’s boyfriend Ryan Gosling.

“I’ll go somewhere and they’ll be like, ‘Hey, Hugo!’ and I’m like, ‘How do you know Hugo’s name? That’s so creepy!'”

Eva is 39.

Not quite perfect vision

JUSTIN Timberlake’s album The 20/20 Experience fell a little short of a million copies sold in its first week; totalling 968,000. It’s still the best total since Taylor Swift’s Red last fall.

Not part of the package deal

ALL the sniggering abut Jon Hamm’s anatomy? Just stop it, he says.

For three years now, some people have taken a lively interest in the subject — you know what I’m talking about — and he tells Rolling Stone he’s fed up.

“Most of it is tongue-in-cheek… but it is a little rude… They’re called ‘privates’ for a reason.”

In all the photos that caused the fuss “I’m wearing pants, for (bad word)’s sake. Lay off… when people feel the freedom to create Tumblr accounts about my (rude word), I feel like that wasn’t part of the deal…

“But whatever. I guess it’s better than being called out for the opposite.”

Wedding in works for Panettiere

TINY little Hayden Panettiere and her comically-gigantic boxer ex-boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko are back together, says Us Weekly, and are now planning to marry.

These two dated for two years starting in 2009 but have been breaking up and reconciling intermittently since then. We now learn that they reunited in January.

As for the engagement, “very few people know, and she isn’t wearing her ring publicly yet,” Don’t Usemyname told the mag.

She’s 23, he’s 37. She’s 5-foot-2 (157cm). He’s 6-foot-6 (198cm).

Judd in 2016

SO what’s the real reason Ashley Judd isn’t running for the Senate, you ask? Well, a story goes with it.

The actress, born in California but raised in Kentucky, was gearing up to seek the Democratic nomination for a 2014 run there against incumbent Mitch McConnell, a Republican.

But then the other day she announced via Twitter that “after serious and thorough contemplation, I realize that my responsibilities and energy at this time need to be focused on my family.”

Apparently two things happened here: first, the local Democratic big boys refuse to be Hollywood-ized. Second, she deduced that she would have a better chance in 2016, running against far-right Republican Rand Paul.

She’s 44.

Dior puts bite on Pattinson

ROBERT Pattinson’s biggest problem seems to be that Dior won’t stop giving him money.

They paid him $18.5 million to be the face of their perfume for men and now, the British papers say, it’s another $6 million to sell their menswear.

His TV ad, coming in May, features him shirtless, and the Dior people are all smirky about how steamy it is. It’s “pushing the boundaries of what you can get away with in advertising,” somebody at Dior told the Daily Mail.

He’s 26.
