Iceland’s prime minister arrives in Manitoba Thursday for this weekend’s Icelandic festival in Gimli, a Manitoba government press release said.
The newly-elected Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson and his wife Anna Palsdottir will take part in events in Gimli, tour the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and take part in a special commemorative wreath-laying service at Brookside Cemetery to honour Icelandic-Canadians who served Canada in wars and peacekeeping missions.
Iceland’s ambassador to Canada, Thordur Oskarsson, and Canada’s ambassador to Iceland, Stewart Wheeler, will also attend events in the province this weekend.
