OFFENCE

Hats off to Will Ford, who marked his first 100-yard rushing game in the CFL. The tailback was dynamite throughout, including his gutsy third-quarter play where he returned a kickoff 100 yards to the Calgary end zone. Ford pushed hard to earn 156 rushing yards on 11 carries, and added another 148 on four kickoff returns.

DEFENCE

The Stampeders stormed over the Bombers all game, racking up a gaudy 622 yards of net offence.

The Bomber D did Jon Cornish a solid, giving the Stampeders tailback a chance to pad his stats over Saskatchewan’s Kory Sheets in the league rushing race. Cornish dashed through gaping holes in the Bombers defence all night, ultimately cashing in for 208 yards on 17 carries.

SPECIAL TEAMS

This will go mostly unheralded in such a lacklustre game, but the Bombers special teams coverage kept Stamps returner Larry Taylor stuffed, holding him to just six return yards on four punts and 46 on three kickoffs.

CRITICAL NUMBERS

FAN-O-METER

TSN gave plenty of face — bag? — time to the three Bombers fans sitting in McMahon Stadium with paper bags pulled over their heads. The sad faces Sharpied onto the front really told the story of the game. Hope Stampeders fans were gentle on the unhappy few.

OF NOTE

Just how remarkable was the Stampeders’ attack? Well, the 622 yards of net offence they earned was closing in on their record of 661, set against Saskatchewan 54 years ago. So if they hadn’t holstered their weapons in the fourth, they could have made it the game of a lifetime.
