Roar of the Rings is ready to rock.

During the week-long curling championship, the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg will be transformed into The Patch, a.k.a. Post-Game Party Central. In addition to boasting a giant beer garden, The Patch will play host to a bunch of musical acts — including a frighteningly authentic Johnny Cash tribute act and a pun-loving cover band that exclusively plays one-hit wonders — that’ll keep the good times rolling all week long.

On Sunday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m., catch Manitoba country music mainstays the Foster Martin Band, which will play cuts from its sixth full-length album, this year’s Just Wingin’ It. A whole lot country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, CMT darlings the Boom Chucka Boys take the stage at 9:30 p.m.

Self-described as Winnipeg’s oldest, hairiest boy band, casino circuit favourites No Direction Band will perform Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 9:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, David James and Big River will celebrate the music of the Man in Black. James, a Vancouver Island-based vocalist, is regarded as one of the most convincing Johnny Cash tribute artists in the country. Expect to hear all the hits, including I Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire. James is even known to reprise Cash’s now-classic cover of Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt.

Sing along to Jesse’s Girl, Hooked on a Feeling and Smokin’ in the Boys Room with Wonderland, Regina’s excellently named one-hit-wonder cover band, on Thursday, Dec. 5. Known as one of Saskatchewan’s best party-starters, Wonderland is a staple of the Calgary Stampede.

A pair of country artists will play The Patch on Friday, Dec. 6. Two-time CCMA winner Shane Chisholm, who performed as a sideman for major country artists including Gord Bamford and George Canyon, performs at 9:30 p.m. before up-and-comer Tim Hicks takes the stage at 10 p.m. The Ontario singer/songwriter released his debut album, Throw Down, this year.

Kenny Shields and Streetheart will rock the Patch on Saturday, Dec. 7. In the late ’70s, Streetheart was one of the most popular bands on the Canadian music scene, achieving gold-record status with its cover of the Rolling Stones’ Under My Thumb. Winnipeg classic rock cover band JukeBox Heroes kick off the night at 9:30 p.m.

The week wraps up Dec. 8 with Free Ride, Winnipeg’s pre-eminent Beatles cover band.
