Police warn public about release of convicted child molester

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) has issued an advisory regarding the release of a convicted sex offender.

Ryan James Gabourie is scheduled to be released from the Headingley Correctional Institution today and is expected to live in Winnipeg. The 32-year-old has a history of offences in relation to children, including numerous counts of sexual assault, break and enter to commit sexual assault and possession of child pornography.

Gabourie is described as a 5-foot-8, 198-pound man with brown hair and hazel eyes.

His latest conviction came November 2012 when he was found using a computer and Internet contrary to his recognizance order one day after his release. Gabourie’s previous conviction stem from the sexual molestation of five young boys (between ages of 5 and 11 years old), after entering their homes through unlocked windows or doors and assaulting them in their beds while their families were sleeping nearby.

Even though Gabourie participated in some sex offender treatment while in prison, the MIHRSOU believes he is a high risk to reoffend.

Among the conditions of his probation order, Gabourie cannot attend a public park, swimming pool, school grounds, community centres or day cares where children under the age of 14 can reasonably be expected to be present, nor can he have private, personal contact with persons under 16 years old. Gabourie is also prohibited from owning a computer and having Internet access, and is also subject to a daily curfew (10 p.m. to 9 a.m.).
