It’s hard to believe that we are officially into the spring season.
One look outside and you may question if the shoulder season will bypass us all together, but those pesky puddles and slushy sidewalks — that’s a sure sign Winnipeg’s spring is finally here.
I love my sparkly and fur-trimmed Sorels, but I am quite content to finally put them in storage and to break out the rubber boots.
I am dying not to have to carry my pretty shoes in a bag everywhere I go but, let’s face it, the salty slush and wet puddles are way worse on your shoes than having to tote them around for a couple more weeks (fingers-crossed).
And besides, rubber boots have really come a long way over the past few years — they come in a whole pallet full of vibrant colours, fun patterns and, nowadays, some fabulous styles.
Of course you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of Hunter riding boots in a neutral shade like black, grey or green, but why not have a little fun with pattern and texture? This season, Hunter adds some style with patterns like Nightshade — an artistic splash of black and white — and a high gloss sheen with the quilted patterned Sandhurst Savoy.
The basic Tretorn rubber boot got a bit of a lift — no pun intended — with the wedge Plask Mid boot. I think these are great for anyone who may want to skip the shoe toting and instead opt for a rubber boot that can double as an indoor shoe.
Also on the mark with an outdoor/indoor rubber boot is Pajar. Their Rena Low Croc boots, which come in a couple of colours, look more like funky ankle boots than rubber boots.
Even style brand Michael Kors is in the rubber-boot game. His Fulton tall boots are ideal for the city gal who still wants to look fashionable while strolling down urban streets without having to dodge the puddles.
