Sure, you know we have polar bears in our city. But how well do you really know them?
The Assiniboine Park Zoo will have daily “Get to Know the Polar Bears” introductions over Spring Break.
Polar bear keepers will talk each day at 10:30 a.m., starting Saturday and running to Sunday, April 6, about the specific habits of Hudson, Storm, Aurora and Kaska. Visitors can expect a short biography of all four bears, and how they all get along.
“We’re excited to have spring break right around the corner. The Zoo always feels more vibrant when it’s filled with children and families,” said Dr. Brian Joseph, director of zoological operations at Assiniboine Park Zoo. “We encourage everyone to come out and see the polar bears, enjoy some quality time with loved ones, and we may even sneak a little learning into your visit.”
The zoo will also host “Crazy About Camels,” daily at 1 p.m. over the school break. Zoo visitors will learn some interesting and fun facts about camels including what they eat, their life in the wild and the difference between a dromedary camel and Bactrian camel.
Visitors should remember to bring a camera for an opportunity to get their photo taken with a camel.
At 3 p.m. daily, there will be a “Feeding Frenzy” at the Kinsmen Discovery Centre. Visitors can follow as the zoo keeper makes the rounds to each animal for their late day feeding and listen to a mini-talk about the species being fed.
Other attractions available to zoo visitors over Spring Break are the Polar Playground, the new Amur Tiger habitat, Toucan Ridge, and over 160 animal species including snow leopards, red pandas, Asiatic lions and more.
The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
