Legal support for low-income families has a new location in the downtown area.
The Legal Help Centre, a joint initiative of the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba, is now located on the second floor inside Portage Place Shopping Centre.
The centre, a not-for-profit initiative started in 2011, provides legal information and resources, a drop-in and referral service as well as community workshops addressing specific legal issues facing families and individuals in low-income situations.
Students from the University of Winnipeg’s Global College and Criminal Justice department and from the University of Manitoba’s faculties of Social Work and Law staff the centre under the supervision and direction of volunteer lawyers.
The Legal Help Centre is open Tuesdays and Fridays (1 p.m.-4:30 p.m.). For more information visit the website.
