Marauders at the museum

Real Pirates, a touring exhibition telling the story of the Whydah pirate ship, is at the Manitoba Museum. Board a replica of the galley that sank nearly 300 years ago. Behold more than 200 artifacts recovered from the ocean’s graveyard, including treasure chests brimming with coins, gold and jewelry, along with weapons used by ruthless pirates. Visit manitobamuseum.ca for info.

Fab fundraiser

The Guardian Angel Benefit for Women’s Cancer is throwing a Hollywood Glam Fashion Show & Cocktail Party at the convention centre on Wednesday. Ditch your office clothes for something a little more fabulous. The evening starts at 6 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Bid on live and silent auctions, take in a fashion show and be inspired by model and cancer survivor Melissa Aronson, better known as Emme. Visit cancercarefdn.mb.ca for tickets.

Laughs and lager

Give comedy a crack, or heckle one of your friends. (Just kidding. Please don’t heckle anyone.) On Tuesday, the King’s Head Pub hosts Comedy Knights for comedian newbies, from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. It’s easy when the food is good, the crowd is friendly and the mike is open. Call 204-957-7710 for information.

Good and gory

If you ever watched the cult classic horror-comedy flick Evil Dead and thought it could use some dandy, toe-tapping music… the time has come. Evil Dead: The Musical is opening at the Park Theatre from Wednesday through Friday, with many more dates next week. This production features action, gore, suspense, some of the most quotable movie lines ever, and music. All souls living and dead are welcome, and costumes are encouraged. Tickets are $24.99 or $34.99 for the VIP Splatter Zone. Visit parktheatrevideo.com for tickets. Groovy!

Get your geek on

The Central Canada Comic Con (C4) is at the convention centre next weekend, starting Friday. Check out the costumes, games and collectibles during the three-day event. Test the strength of your force at the Jedi training exhibition, or meet some of the guest panellists — stars of science fiction, fantasy films and wrestling. So many photo opportunities! Visit c4winnipeg.com for info.

Freaky farm

Six Pines Haunted Attraction’s Fear by Night is a scare-fest recommended for adults (and teens 16 and older who have parental approval) that features a number of dark and frightening venues to walk, crawl or run screaming through. New haunts this year include Welcome to Terminus, Alice in Zombieland and Carnevil. (Great, clowns). This is the last week to revisit your childhood fears. Fear by Night is open Thursday and Friday nights until late, at Six Pines Ranch. Tickets are $25. Visit sixpines.mb.ca for info.
