Manitoba Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari said today the turmoil surrounding the NDP government, over Premier Greg Selinger’s leadership, is a clear sign they cannot be taken seriously by voters.

“This is not a credible government,” she said. “They lack transparency and they lack accountability and all Manitobans, if anything, deserve that,” Bokhari said this morning at the legislative building.

“Aside from political games, aside from political survival, this is about the people of Manitoba, and if they cannot do their jobs effectively and in the best interests of Manitobans, then they all need to figure out what they need to do, but Manitobans deserve to know what that decision is,” she said.

She said this week’s saga, which saw five high-ranking cabinet ministers encourage Selinger to resign for the survival of the party, is yet another indication the NDP is more concerned about saving its own skin.

“The NDP are misguided if they believe that changing leaders will change their track record,” she said. “How can these ministers be focused on their own jobs and responsibilities when they’re trying to run their leader out of town?”

She added if NDP members believe Selinger needs to be replaced before the next election, which is generally expected in April 2016, then they should use internal party procedures to take action.

The Liberals have only one MLA in the 57-seat legislature, River Heights MLA Jon Gerrard, the party’s former leader.
