Premier Greg Selinger appears to be forging ahead with a throne speech before Christmas.
Selinger is likely to meet with his new cabinet as early as tomorrow when a date for a fall sitting of the legislature will be determined.
The tentative date for the throne speech is Nov. 12.
The throne speech will outline the NDP government’s legislative and policy agenda for the coming year.
Under normal circumstances, the date of the throne speech and fall sitting would have already been announced, but it has been postponed due to the rebellion within Selinger’s cabinet over his leadership. Five top ministers resigned their portfolios Monday and the premier swiftly followed up by naming new MLAs to the vacated positions.
The throne speech is normally followed by a three-week sitting of the house — and daily question period — before breaking for the Christmas holidays.
Government spokesmen say the dates of the throne speech and fall sitting will be confirmed shortly.
