There aren’t enough adjectives out there to describe how cold it is this morning.

That may be a little over the top, sure, but it doesn’t change the fact that southern Manitoba is currently in the icy grip of a deep freeze. Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Winnipeg and the surrounding area this morning, as windchill values drop into the -40 to -45 range.

Expect this current Arctic air mass to hang around tonight right through Tuesday.

As for today’s forecast, look for mainly sunny skies and a high of -22 C. The wind will blow from the northwest 20 km/h. Tonight’s low will dip down to -30 C.

A high of -22 C is expected for Tuesday. Again, wind chill values will be in the -40 to -45 range.

Wednesday should see a bit of a reprieve, with a daytime high of -12 C forecast.

Unfortunately, the visit with seasonal normal temperatures will be short-lived. The mercury will slowly start to make its way back down into the extreme cold levels as the weekend approaches.
