Manitoba Hydro will host public open houses in February and March in southeastern Manitoba and in Winnipeg to present its preferred final route for the new Manitoba-Minnesota transmission line.
The open houses will run from 3 to 8 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
- Feb. 10 – Zhoda, Community Centre, corner of Road no. 16 & Balla Road
- Feb. 11 – Piney, Community Centre, Hwy. 89
- Feb. 12 – Winnipeg, Holiday Inn South, 1330 Pembina Hwy.
- Feb. 17 – LaBroquerie, Arena Hall, 35 Normandeau Bay
- Feb. 24 – Ste. Anne, Seine River Banquet Centre, 80A Arena Rd.
- March 4 – Headingley, Community Centre, 5353 Portage Ave.
- March 5 – Oak Bluff, Recreation Centre, 101 MacDonald Rd.
- March 11 – Richer, Richer Young at Heart Community Club, Dawson Rd. at Hwy. 302
- March 12 – Dugald, Community Centre, 544 Holland St.
The Manitoba-Minnesota Transmission Project is needed to both export surplus electricity and increase the reliability of the province’s electricity supply in emergency and drought situations. The final preferred route will be submitted this summer for regulatory approval to Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship and the National Energy Board.
It has already been approved by the Public Utilities Board.
The 500-kilovolt line will start at the Dorsey Converter Station, located near Rosser northwest of Winnipeg, and travel south around the city. From southeast Winnipeg, the line will continue south crossing the Manitoba-Minnesota border near Piney.
From there it will connect to the Great Northern Transmission Line, which will be constructed by Minnesota Power.
Manitoba Hydro will initially own 49 per cent of the U.S. side of the line, with Minnesota Power owning the rest.
