Stolen bedbug truck found

WINNIPEG police say the stolen “ambulance-style” truck that carried a number of trained bedbug-sniffing dogs has been found.

The truck, belonging to Ontario-based company A-Scent K9 Detection Service, was found in a back lane in the 400 block of Young Street at around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Police say there was no damage to the vehicle, but it was rummaged through.

The truck, a yellow 2003 GMC vehicle, was stolen earlier in the day from the Four Points hotel in the 2900 block of Pembina Highway, after the owner had left it running and unattended. There were 10 scent-detection dogs inside the truck when it was stolen; police found eight of them while investigating a complaint of unleashed dogs in the Parkville Drive area.

The other two dogs, Labrador retrievers, were missing for a few hours before they were found in the area of Dunkirk Drive and Moore Avenue.

No arrests have been made. Police are still investigating.
