FIFA fever begins at Investors Group Field

That buzz in the air? Oh, that’s just the preparations for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Winnipeg entering their final phase.

FIFA’s exclusive-use period at Investors Group Field begins today, as the Blue Bombers hand over the keys. The local FIFA organizing committee will have their run of the stadium from now until shortly after the last match is played in Winnipeg on June 16.

The tournament kicks off on June 6 in Edmonton, with Winnipeg’s first match day slated for Monday, June 8.

Earlier this week, venue GM Chad Falk noted that the Bombers had been “generous” in allowing FIFA to make its adjustments to the stadium early, including polishing the turf clean of football markings and brand logos.

As a result, all Bombers training camp practices are being held on the east soccer fields Chancellor Matheson, next to the indoor soccer complex.
