NHL Draft day two preview: the Jets dig for more gold

SUNRISE, Fla. – The Winnipeg Jets have mined the later rounds of the NHL Draft for some potential gold.

And they’ll go digging again today.

Rounds 2-thru-7 go today at the BB&T Center in Florida and the Jets, who drafted Kyle Connor and Jack Roslovic in the first round Friday night, have six more picks to add to their prospect pool. And, for all those nationalists out there who were bemoaning the Jets selection of two players from the US Friday, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said:

“They’re talking (about) the fact that we drafted two American kids. We don’t really look at the passports. A lot of times you try not to look at the positions.”

Asked if they will try to fill out specific positions on their organizational depth chart, the Jets GM added:

“It really depends with what’s on your list. There could be a cluster of forwards, there could be a cluster of defencemen or there could be centremen or wingers. You really have to still be true to the list and see what’s around it.

“If there is things side by side, you might look at the position a little bit more.”

The Jets will pick 47^th in the second round, followed by picks in the third, fourth, six and two in the seventh.
