Although tornado warnings were scattered across southern Manitoba Saturday, Environment Canada says it hasn’t heard of any touchdowns happening – yet.

A Winnipeg spokesman said Environment Canada received many calls for severe weather reports and is still gathering information about what happened yesterday.

“We’ve received no word of any touchdowns in the area,” the spokesman said. “We do have reports of heavy damage in the area and up to softball-sized hail.”

There were sustained winds gusting south at more than 100 km/h from Roseisle, Manitoba (about an hour and a half southwest of Winnipeg) to the U.S. border.

An inch of rain was reported in Miami, Manitoba (also about an hour and a half southwest of Winnipeg), while playground equipment and small outbuildings were reported to have been blown over in Haskett, Manitoba (about two hours southwest of Winnipeg).

The Alert Ready system, which broadcasts the severe weather warnings on television and radio across Manitoba, was in effect on Saturday.

Environment Canada hoped to release a full summary report on Saturday’s severe weather by Sunday afternoon, the spokesman said.
