Days after Prime Minister Stephen Harper became the first federal leader to make an appearance in Manitoba this election campaign, a Winnipeg Liberal candidate is bringing in a former PM.

The campaign team for Winnipeg South Centre candidate Jim Carr said Paul Martin, Canada’s last Liberal prime minister, will be at Carr’s campaign office at 545 Academy Rd. at 9 a.m. Monday.

Carr is the former head of the Manitoba Business Council. Conservative MP Joyce Bateman is seeking re-election in the riding.

Bateman played a prominent role at Harper’s rally Thursday, introducing the Tory leader to a warm reception from party faithful.

Before her election in 2011, the riding had been long been held by the Liberals.
