Vocal cord problems have forced American pop star Kelly Clarkson to pull the plug on her Piece By Piece tour, including an Oct. 7 show at the MTS Centre.

The winner of the first American Idol season in 2002 apologized in a statement Friday.

“I was so looking forward to sharing this tour with all my amazing fans in Canada and the U.K.,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, my doctor is telling me I have to stay on vocal rest, but I am working hard to get better as fast as possible.”
