Scheifele’s 2-goal night couldn’t save Jets, Islanders win 4-3 in OT

Kyle Okposo scored two minutes 20 seconds into overtime to lead the New York Islanders to a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre Thursday night.

With the loss, the Jets drop to 26-32-5 and have now lost seven of their last eight games. The Islanders improve to 35-20-7 with the win and have now won five of their last six.

Mark Scheifele opened the scoring, netting his 16th of the season on the power-play to give the Jets a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The Islanders would even the score in the second with a goal from Calvin de Haan, who beat Jets goalie Michael Hutchinson with a weak shot to the glove side for his second of the season.

Tyler Myers evened the score at 2-2 after Shane Prince put the Isles up near the mid-way mark of the frame. Scheifele would score his second of the game at the 17:57 mark of the third, a goal that looked to be the game winner for Winnipeg but that lead too would be erased, this time from a goal by Nick Leddy with 29 seconds left in the third period.
