Palliser Furniture Upholstery is the lone Manitoba company named to Canada’s Best Managed Companies list for 2015.
The Winnipeg-based furniture manufacturer was among 50 companies named to this year’s list, considered one of the country’s premier business awards programs.
The 23-year-old annual program recognizes Canadian privately owned and managed companies that demonstrate continued excellence in innovative management and business performance.
“With many unknowns surrounding today’s economic outlook, keeping a close eye on market conditions is critical for all Canadian businesses, but especially for privately owned enterprises,” said Peter E. Brown, national co-leader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and partner, Deloitte Private.
“Best Managed companies identify and prepare for potential swings in the market ahead of time. This allows them to adapt their business models and shift investment strategies to areas that are still important to the business, while simultaneously being shielded from adverse market consequences,” he added.
“These enterprises demonstrate the significant impact Canadian private companies are making by pursuing innovation, adapting to change and maintaining a sharp focus on their clients,” said Jon Hountalas, executive vice-president, business banking at CIBC. “We’re proud to recognize these private companies as leaders in their industries.”
The Best Managed winners is one of five award categories in the Best Managed program. The others are requalified winner (a past winner who has retained its best-managed designation for two additional years), gold standard winner (re-qualified four times), gold standard requalified winner (requalified six times) and platinum club member (requalified seven or more times).
This year, Manitoba has three requalified winners, one gold standard winner, two gold standard requalified winners and 15 platinum club winners.
The program is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, the National Post, Smith School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums.
