Tonight’s NHL game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Centre in Philly is going into overtime with the score knotted a 2-2.

Blake Wheeler evened things for the Jets 2:35 into the third period with his 20th goal of the season.

After a scoreless opening period, Mark Streit started the scoring 41 seconds into the second frame. Wayne Simmonds made it 2-0 for the Flyers at 5:10, and Mark Scheifele responded for the Jets with his team-leading 25th goal of the season at 6:28.

Ondrej Pavelec has faced 30 shots in the Jets net, while Steve Mason has stopped 24 shots for the Flyers.

ABOUT THE FLYERS

Philly is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Coyotes in Arizona Saturday night, but is 6-2-2 in its last 10 and trying to lock down a wild-card spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference with the Detroit Red Wings right behind them in the rear-view mirror.

The Flyers are breathing a sigh of relief — so far — after Claude Giroux hit his head on the boards following a hit from Martin Hanzal with just 2:15 left in the game Saturday.

Hanzal received a five-minute boarding penalty on the play and Giroux told reporters afterward he felt “pretty good” and “it happened pretty quick. I kind of got tangled out there.”

The hit prompted a scrum, as Wayne Simmonds tried to get to Hanzal and subsequently received a 10-minute misconduct.

Said Hanzal: “I pushed him with one arm. Obviously, he’s their captain, so they went after me. I don’t understand. They went after me and I didn’t do anything.”

Steve Mason made 15 saves for the Flyers and will likely get the start against the Jets, although head coach Dave Hakstol might be tempted to give Anthony Stolarz, his first NHL start. Stolarz is up from the AHL after Michal Neuvirth suffered a lower-body injury eight days ago and is now out for three weeks.

The Coyotes scored on the power-play Saturday night, snapping a streak of 19 straight kills for the Flyers. Philly’s PK is tied for 17th overall, while their power play is also ranked 17th.
