If you’re a minimum-wage worker with a proven track record of creating jobs for Manitobans, you could apply to sit on Premier Brian Pallister’s enterprise team.
The idea came from the NDP in question period on Thursday that Pallister should appoint a minimum-wage earner to the advisory team he’s creating to help the Tories grow Manitoba’s economy.
Speaking later to reporters, Pallister wouldn’t give a flat-out “no”.
Pallister said the team members will be “Manitobans who have a record of creating jobs, to gather ideas from them.”
“We’ll be announcing progress on that as we move forward. I look forward to having an inclusive group which have lots of ideas on how to create better opportunities for Manitobans, with a demonstrated record of having done so in their own lives,” said Pallister.
New Democrat Kevin Chief raised the idea in the legislature, pointing out that indigenous young people and new Canadians are becoming a greater portion of Manitoba’s workforce.
“Will he commit to having a minimum wage worker sitting on his enterprise team?” Chief asked the Conservatives.
Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen responded that the Conservatives will have a plan for growth.
