Saturday results
Page playoff 1 vs. 1 game
Barb Spencer 4
Kristy Jenion 3
Game notes: Jenion mysteriously played to Spencer’s strength in this one as the two teams banged rocks and exchanged singles all game, with Spencer scoring last and decisively with a last rock draw to the four-foot in the 10th end.
Page playoff 2 vs. 2 game
Karen Porritt 9
Chelsea Carey 5
Game notes: This game was a lot closer than the score indicated and Carey appeared to have things under control a couple of times. But her team unravelled in the final three ends, surrendering a deuce in the eighth, a steal of one in the ninth and then a steal of two more in the 10th.
Today’s schedule
Semifinal (9:30 a.m., Yellowhead Centre, Neepawa)
Karen Porritt vs. Kristy Jenion
Game notes: Both these teams have tons of big-game experience. Porritt’s a former Manitoba juniors, mixed and women’s champion, while Jenion is a former provincial juniors champion and lost women’s finals in both 2005 and 2006. Today’s game would appear to mean more to Jenion — and that might not be a good thing for a curler who has struggled in big games in the past.
Final (2 p.m.)
Barb Spencer vs. TBD
Game notes: Spencer and her sister/third Darcy Robertson previously won Manitoba women’s titles in 1986 and 2003, but failed to make the playoffs in both national appearances and are still motivated by a desire to correct that blemish on their resumé.
