The number of Winnipeg Jets regulars hitting the ice at the team’s practice facility grew on Monday, with the start of training camp looming later this week.
Roughly 20 Winnipeg Jets regulars took to the ice on Monday morning at MTS Iceplex, including Nikolaj Ehlers, Mathieu Perreault, Adam Lowry, Chris Thorburn, Andrew Copp and Bryan Little.
Defencemen Toby Enstrom and Paul Postma made their first appearances with the team, as players worked on zone breakouts and zone entries.
Jets netminder Michael Hutchinson and Moose goalie Eric Comrie were given a chance to work on their breakaway shutdown skills as well as their positioning on two-on-ones.
Players finished up their morning skate with a lightly paced four-on-four scrimmage.
Several Manitoba Moose hit the ice prior to the big club. Defensive duo Josh Morrissey and Julian Melchiori, along with J.C. Lipon, were among the notables on the ice for the Jets’ farm team.
“It’s just a chance to get in some last-minute work before camp begins,” Morrissey said after his hour-stint on the ice.
The Jets will take part in physicals on Thursday before hitting the ice Friday.
Several key members of the team will miss much of training camp due to the World Cup of Hockey. Mark Scheifele, Dustin Byfuglien, Blake Wheeler and 2016 No. 2 overall draft pick Patrik Laine are among the notable absentees.
