A newly rebuilt playground structure at École Robert Browning in St. James School Division was badly burned by suspected arson early Sunday morning.

The school and parent council had recently cost-shared a $13,000 addition to the playground structure, after a slide was burned last year.

A second slide and part of the new structure was damaged by the latest fire. Parent council president, Megan Wegert, estimated replacing the slide would cost at least $15,000. The deductible on the insurance is $25,000, so it probably won’t be worth even claiming, said Wegert.
