Only one more day of bone-chilling temperatures before Winnipeggers will bask in above normal temperatures this week.
Environment Canada predicts that Sunday’s daytime high will top out at -24 C, with an extreme windchill of -40 C, before creeping up to -21 C at night.
But from then on the mercury will keep rising with it hitting -12 C when you get up on Monday morning and reaching a high of -6 C during the day.
And it doesn’t stop there – Tuesday’s high is predicted to be -1 C, Wednesday’s at -4 C, Thursday’s at -5 C, and Friday at -7 C.
The average high temperature at this time of year is -10.3 C while the average low is -19.8 C.
The highest temperature recorded in Winnipeg on this day was 6.7 C in 1943, while the record low was -34.3 C in 1989.
On Sunday morning the province’s hot spot – Environment Canada’s wording not ours – is -22.9 C at George Island, while the cold spot is -36.6 C in Wasagaming.
