ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Winnipeg Jets have recalled defenceman Brenden Kichton from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose and the fourth-year pro could make his NHL debut tonight against the Anaheim Ducks.

Kichton, a 24-year-old product of Spruce Grove, Alta., was summoned on an emergency basis. His presence in the lineup could be to replace veteran blue-liner Dustin Byfuglien, who suffered an undisclosed injury in Winnipeg’s 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings Thursday night.

Byfuglien left Thursday’s game late in the third period and Jets head coach Paul Maurice was unable to update media on his status at the time.

PHIL HOSSACK / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Manitoba Moose defenceman Brenden Kichton has had some difficulties this year due to the effects of injury.

Kichton was chosen by the Jets in the seventh round (190th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. In 54 games with the Moose this season, Kichton has no goals, 18 assists and 54 penalty minutes.

The injury-depleted Jets had defencemen Nelson Nogier, Julian Melchiori and Brian Strait, all recent AHL call-ups, in their lineup Thursday night. Veteran blue-liners Toby Enstrom, Jacob Trouba and Ben Chiarot have all been out with injuries but Maurice hinted Thursday Trouba may be ready to play tonight against the Ducks.

The Jets have also transferred forward Brandon Tanev from an emergency recall to a regular recall.
