‘Thank you! Thank you, Mom! Thank you!”
Eight-year-old Ondreiz Osborne shouted to his mom when he found out he would be going to camp for the first time this summer.
“He’s very enthusiastic and kind of dramatic, but in a good way,” mom Susie Saville laughed.
Ondreiz has wanted to go to camp for awhile — he almost got to do until his mom welcomed a baby into the family and couldn’t take him.
Ondreiz doesn’t know what to expect, but he has an idea of what his days will look like.
“We’re going to wake up, then go fishing,” he said. Ondreiz is autistic and his mom believes the camp experience will be good for him.
“It’ll help him evolve and grow as a little person, the new experiences adding to his little character,” she said.
Ondreiz’s trip will be sponsored by the Sunshine Fund.
Ondreiz’s cousin, 10-year-old Paige Laquette, will go with him.
“I’m excited to meet new friends and have fun,” she said.
She’s happy her cousin gets to go, too.
“It’s going to feel OK because I’m there with my family,” Paige said.
The two will attend Camp Arnes from July 17 to 22, where they’ll go on pony rides, take archery lessons, ride peddle carts and play laser tag.
“I can’t wait to go camping!” an excited Ondreiz said.
Saville said she went to camp once when she was young, and she loved it.
“It’s something I wish I had been able to do more as a kid,” she said.
