WINNIPEG — The minister of public safety and emergency preparedness is making a sweep through Manitoba today.

To start his day, Peter Van Loan will travel through West and East St. Paul with Joy Smith, MP for Kildonan — St. Paul, to assess flood damage. The minister will also meet with mayors and councils of the two municipalities.

At 9 a.m. Van Loan will join Steve Ashton, Manitoba’s minister responsible for emergency measures, and Vic Toews, Treasury Board president, to view the flood-damaged areas near Lockport.

At 10:30 a.m., Van Loan changes pace and joins Dave Chomiak, Manitoba’s minister of justice and Attorney General, at Ka Ni Kanichihk, an agency that serves Winnipeg’s aboriginal community, for an announcement and question period with the media.
