Foodie fests

Ribfest 2017 winds up today at The Forks’ festival stage. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Winnipeg as a fundraiser for local youth projects, this free event boasts food trucks, live entertainment and plenty of meat. Morden’s Corn and Apple Festival also wraps today and is worth the one-and-a-half hour drive from Winnipeg. Enjoy free corn, apple juice and carnival rides, plus an evening movie at the Stardust Drive-in Theatre.

Double down on Disney

Two Disney-themed trivia nights take place in Winnipeg this week, so you’d better start binging on Aladdin, Cinderella et al. On Monday, The Pint (274 Garry St.) is hosting an encore session of its popular Disney trivia night. On Thursday, Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub at the University of Winnipeg (2-471 Portage Ave.) is hosting a Disney trivia night of its own. Tickets are $5 for the latter event. Both start at 8 p.m.

Rock and remember

It’s time to dig out your skin-tight jeans and go hard on the hairspray. The first Classic RockFest shakes down at Shaw Park Tuesday, starting at 4:30 p.m. There will be a tribute to Kenny Shields, the lead singer of Street heart who died in July, and performances by Honeymoon Suite, Harlequin, The Pumps and Orphan. Fit your schedule

Make the most of summer’s homestretch with some free outdoor lunchtime exercise. Fitness in the Park emds its seasonal run this week with daily classes at the Millennium Library Park, Memorial Park and Upper Fort Garry. Last dance

It’s time for Rainbow Stage’s final curtain call of the year. Mamma Mia! has its last show in Kildonan Park Thursday. Set in Greece and soundtracked entirely with ABBA hits, the musical follows a daughter who’s eager to find out who her dad is before she gets married, despite her mother’s refusal to let the secret slip. Band together

It’s a bird… it’s a plane… nope, it’s Superband. Descending on The Good Will Social Club on Friday, this six-piece “musical Frankenstein” comprises members of Winnipeg trio Red Moon Road and Brandon band The Middle Coast. They’re promising “music you can shake to and a spectacle you can’t unsee” for their first show. Doors open at 9 p.m., music starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance (at The Good Will or through Ticketfly.com) or $15 at the door.

Birds on the brain

Wander through The Aviary at The Forks from dusk until 11 p.m. next weekend. The installation is being described as “an ethereal and electric installation of wire framed birds and whimsical bird houses,” strung along the trees in the northwest side of The Forks’ historic port. On Saturday night, the Riel Gentlemen’s Choir will be on hand to perform for passersby from canoes on the Assiniboine River.
