Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 05/05/2009 (6225 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
In an interview this week, random prime-ministerial offspring and occasional reality-TV host Ben Mulroney suggested that whenever Canadian Idol returns to CTV’s airwaves – that is, IF it returns – the show’s producers might be well served by a complete shakeup of the format, in order to "prove to the cynics that the show is still relevant."
Among the changes he mulled out loud were a new set of judges and … wait for it … a new host.
I don’t know if I agree that the judges need to be replaced; I think the Jake/Farley/Sass/Zack combo has always worked pretty well. As for finding a new Canuck-Idol host, however … I’m with Ben.
Whaddaya think? Should Canadian Idol be revived, or reincarnated, or simply left to rest? And if it does return, does the blueprint need to be redrawn, particularly in a way that includes someone else introducing the wanna-be Idols?
And with that attempt at prompting a late-spring teevee-topical discussion, it’s time for ol’ CouchBoy to ease his way off the sofa for a brief while.
I’ll be away on leave until mid-June (the timing couldn’t POSSIBLY be worse, given the frenzy of season finales that’s about to arrive), which means I won’t be around to discuss and dissect, among other things, the finales of American Idol, Survivor: Tocantins, The Amazing Race and Dancing With the Stars, the final farewell of Prison Break, the bio-toxin-beleaguered end of 24, whatevertheheck happens in the Lost closer, and the new-season schedule announcements from the U.S. nets (May 18 to 22) and Canadian broadcasters (June 1 to 3).
Feel free to weigh in on any and all of the above. See you back in front of the not-so-small screen sometime next month.
