About the Devils
The Devils had lost three straight (0-1-2) heading into a Friday night battle with the Washington Capitals and were just 1-2-3 in their past six games. They had allowed at least four goals in three straight games. C Michael McLeod, chosen by New Jersey 12th overall in the 2016 NHL draft, was set to make his NHL debut against the host Capitals.
New Jersey has struggled out of the gate and sat tied for seventh with Philadelphia in the Metropolitan Division prior to Friday’s action, however, coach John Hynes’ club is dynamite on home ice in Newark. The Devils are 7-1-3 at Prudential Center, but only 2-9-1 on the road.

LW Taylor Hall is the offensiver driver, scoring seven goals while setting up 17 others. C Kyle Palmieri is off to a super start, firing 12 goals and assisting on nine others. Winnipegger C Travis Zajac has seven goals and seven helpers but is pointless in his last six outings. C Nico Hischier, the No.1 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, has four goals and nine assists.
G Keith Kinkaid has carried the mail for the Devils, appearing in 19 games (9-5-4) while posting a 2.72 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. Former Manitoba Moose G Cory Schneider has yet to register a victory (0-5-0) and has a 4.28 GAA and .863 S%
