FIGC bans 25 Juventus youth team players for 1 match

TURIN, Italy – The Italian soccer federation has handed one-match bans to 25 players on Juventus’ under-15 squad for having sung anti-Neapolitan chants.

The FIGC’s disciplinary tribunal also fined Juventus 6,000 euros on Thursday.

The incident occurred after Juventus beat Napoli 3-0 in the semifinal of the Final Four Scudetto of the under-15 championship on June 11.

The federation says that, on their return to the dressing room, the players “loudly sang a chant which was seriously offensive to the opposing team, (its) fans and the city of Naples.”

One of the players, Luciano Pisapia, posted it on his Instagram account.

The FIGC’s prosecutor had asked for a three-match ban for Pisapia and for the other players to be suspended for two matches.

The federation found the players’ actions “deplorable” and agreed with Juventus that the players should attend a class to learn how to respect their opponents and properly use digital equipment.

Juventus, which offered to withdraw from the competition, lost 5-0 in the final to Inter Milan.
