Some of the best volleyball players in the world are coming to Winnipeg in September.
The University of Winnipeg is hosting the NORCECA men’s continental volleyball championship from Sept. 2-7.
The tournament features senior men’s national teams of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA). Teams expected to play in the event are from Canada, the United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago. The lineups are expected to be finalized in mid-August.
It’s the first time in more than a decade that Winnipeg will host an international men’s volleyball event.
The tournament will have continental points on the line, as the top four teams will advance to the 2020 Olympic Games qualifier in January. The last time the tournament was held was in 2017, with the United States winning and Canada finishing third.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday morning at eventbrite.ca.
