Einarson rink to meet Switzerland in Champion’s Cup curling final

Kerri Einarson’s red-hot streak continues.

The Gimli skip and her teammates have advanced to the final of the Champion’s Cup, the last Grand Slam of Curling tour event on the 2018-19 season, Sunday in Saskatoon.

Einarson and her crew of third Val Sweeting, second Shannon Birchard and lead Briane Meilleur meet the 2019 world champions from Switzerland, the Silvana Tirinzoni team, in the final.

Einarson won the women’s Players’ Championship in Toronto just two weeks ago and is the third-ranked women’s squad on the World Curling Tour rankings.

The Manitobans scored three in the eighth end Saturday night to knock off Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg 5-4. Hasselborg’s team was skipped by Eve Muirhead of Scotland, as Hasselborg was in Norway for the world mixed doubles championship — which she won.

In the other Players’ semifinal, Tirinzoni beat Rachel Homan from Ottawa 5-4.

The winning foursome earns $40,000. The game is slated for 3 p.m. CT on Sportsnet 360.

In the men’s event, it’s an all-Alberta final between Brendan Bottcher and Kevin Koe. The game started at 11 a.m. CT on Sportsnet.

Winnipeg curler B.J. Neufeld is the third on Koe’s reigning Brier championship team.
