Mancini leads Manitoba mid-amateur championship

Pine Ridge’s Tyler Mancini finished with two birdies today to shoot even-par 70 and take a five-stroke lead at the half-way point of the Manitoba men’s mid-amateur golf championship.

Pine Ridge’s Tyler Mancini finished with two birdies today to shoot even-par 70 and take a five-stroke lead at the half-way point of the Manitoba men’s mid-amateur golf championship.

Mancini’s two-day total at Southwood Golf and Country Club is 142, two-over-par and five better than Breezy Bend’s Garth Collings, a former five-time winner who captured the provincial amateur championship last week.

Jay Doyle, Todd Fanning and Terry James, all of Niakwa, share third spot, seven back of Mancini, at plus-nine. Doyle was 75 today, James was 74 and Fanning was 72.

Mancini, who finished fifth at last week’s amateur, had three birdies and an eagle today to match par and post the best score so far of the championship.

Round 3 is scheduled for Wednesday and the provincial event for those 25 and older wraps up on Thursday.
