TYLER MANCINI of Pine Ridge decided Tuesday he’d had enough of sharing.

The 23-year-old moved away from his closest competitors at the Manitoba Mid-Amateur championship with a round of even-par 70 at Southwood Golf and Country Club.

His 2-over 142 total through two days is five better than Breezy Bend’s Garth Collings and seven better than three Niakwa golfers, Jay Doyle, Terry James and Todd Fanning.

Mancini, who came fifth in last week’s Manitoba Amateur, birdied his final two holes on Tuesday to take a commanding lead at the halfway point of the championship for those 25 and older.

Collings, who won last week’s Amateur and has five mid-amateur titles to his credit already, managed just a 74 on Tuesday.

Behind him, Fanning, the former three-time Manitoba Amateur champ and touring pro, rallied to a 72 to move up the charts about 10 places.

First-round co-leaders Mike Walker of St. Boniface and Chris Yaremkiewich of Rossmere struggled on Day 2. After an opening 72, Walker, a former mid-amateur champ, shot 83 on Tuesday while Yaremkiewich was 79.

After a cut to the low 60 players and ties (174), action in the 72-hole championship continues today at Southwood.
