THEIR SHARE OF LOAD:

THE Bombers kicking duo of Alex Serna and punter Mike Renaud continues to flourish in Mike Kelly’s positive environment. Kelly prefers to encourage his kickers, while some coaches treat them like outcasts.

Serna was 3-for-3 on Friday and is now 17-for-20 on the season with a long of 54 yards.

Renaud, who has punted 72 times for 2,576 yards, has settled in nicely as a rookie.

OF THE LAW:

THE best defence can sometimes be a strong offence and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have struggled to find an offensive kick this season.

The defence has been the backbone of this club. The offence has been quiet — almost silent on some nights — and as a result there have been signs of wear and tear on the D.

In Friday’s win over the Lions the Bombers offence won the time of possession battle quite handily, owning the field for over 33 minutes.

Linebacker Barrin Simpson says any time the offence can eat up that much clock, he and his mates on the defence will wreak havoc.

“When we can get off the field we’re stingy,” said Simpson, who was key to his team holding the Lions to just 87 yards on the ground. He also had an interception for one of his team’s four takeaways.

“We come up with turnovers and fly around and make plays.”
