BEN MacPHEE-SIGURDSON / BOOKS
Finnish Flash jets into town with new book

He played just three of his 21 seasons in the National Hockey League in Winnipeg, but on the front cover of his new book My Life (co-written with Ari Mennander) Teemu Selanne appears in the red, white and blue of the Jets’ 1.0 jersey. The Winnipeg fan favourite’s new memoir hits store shelves on Tuesday Oct. 29, but Selanne will be in Winnipeg signing copies of the book Sunday, Oct. 27, at two separate events. The 49-year-old Selanne, who scored a record-setting 76 goals in his rookie campaign with the Jets, will sign copies of My Life at Chapters’ Polo Festival location (695 Empress St.) from 12:30-1:30 p.m. before heading to the St. Vital Centre location (1225 St. Mary’s Rd.) to sign books from 3-4 p.m.

ANTHONY AUGUSTINE / STREAMING
The Irishman on Netflix

The prestige of the widescreen release remains, but it’s no longer seen as inferior to premiere your film online. Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese is the latest to move away from the big screen with his latest crime epic, The Irishman, choosing instead to bring along Joe Pesci, Robert Deniro, Harvey Keitel, Al Pacino and former Winnipegger Anna Paquin to Netflix after a brief theatrical run. The film will have a limited theatrical release on Nov. 1 and go online on Nov. 27.
