Hello Mike,

I was wondering if you knew of an approximate value of this six-gallon Red Wing butter churn. It is in great condition and not much for any cracks or chips. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thank you,

Red Wing Butter Churn

Dear Chris,

What you have is a stoneware crock used to make butter made by the Red Wing Company in Red Wing, Minn.

It would date back approximately 100 years. The “6” refers to the size and how many gallons it would hold.

Unfortunately, you are missing the original stoneware lid. These crocks were more desirable 15-plus years ago, and have slowly been dropping in price.

Condition of old crocks is important, as a small crack or chip will drop its price significantly.

Based on your description of your crock, in today’s market it would sell for $60 to $80.
